You will see another symbol used above some Arabic letters. This symbol is called 'shaddah'

When this symbol is above a consonant, the consonant is lengthened. You'll hear it is held for slightly longer.

The important thing to know is that when a consonant has a shaddah and a kasrah, the kasrah goes above the letter, instead of below.
